Email automation is a powerful way to nurture new prospects and close more business online, but if you do it wrong it can hurt your brand.
These three email automation mistakes are all too common, and fairly simple to avoid.
Unfortunately, I was a little bit inexperienced at the time. What actually happened was that a group of people were sent through the same set of emails over and over and over again. That left a really bad impression on my business.
So what are the three most common mistakes with email automation that you should aim to avoid?
- The first mistake is sending the same email to the same people again and again. And that was the mistake I made with my first product launch, by not setting up tags appropriately.
- The second mistake I see people making with email automation, is to do with not setting up personalization tags within their automations. Without personalization tags you are sending everyone on your list the same set of emails, rather than looking to understand what your subscribers individually are actually interested in knowing more about.
- The third mistake that I see happen a lot with email automation is not testing properly. And again, this was something I was guilty of in that first product launch. You really need to test everything to do with your email automation sequences – from the emails themselves, the copy, how they turn up on different browsers and in different email providers. You also need to test the infrastructure of the automation. Are your tags working properly? Are the emails getting sent at the right time to the right people?
So there you have it, they are the three biggest email automation mistakes that I’ve made myself and I see other people making regularly, and they’re really easy to overcome.
